1John 3:6-9
6 Anyone that in him abides not sins: Anyone that sins not has seen
him, nor has known him 7 Little children, no one let lead astray you;
he that practises righteousness, righteous is, even as he righteous
is. 8 He that practises sin, of the devil is; because from the
beginning the devil sins. for this was manifested the Son of God, that
he might undo the works of the devil. 9 Anyone that has been begotten
of God, sin not practises, because seed his in him abides, and he is
not able to sin, because of God he has been begotten.
The above if from the Interlinear Greek NT (TR) and shows that one who
is "born of God" CANNOT sin. Compare this with the Weymouth NT and
see how the verses are translated in a way that favours the usual
explanation that not to sin actually means not to "continually" or
"habitually" sin, as so many preachers like to teach from pulpits. If
they didn't, they'd soon run of of sheep to shear. Emphasis in the
following verses is mine:
6 No one who continues in union with Him LIVES IN SIN: no one who
lives in sin has seen Him or knows Him. 7 Dear children, let no one
lead you astray. The man who acts righteously is righteous, just as He
is righteous. 8 He who is HABITUALLY GUILTY OF SIN is a child of the
Devil, because the Devil has been a sinner from the very beginning.
The Son of God appeared for the purpose of undoing the work of the
Devil. 9 No one who is a child of God is HABITUALLY GUILTY OF SIN. A
God-given germ of life remains in him, and he cannot HABITUALLY
SIN--because he is a child of God. (Weymouth NT)
Now compare with the Bible in Basic English, where there is not a hint
of "habitual" or "continual" sin:
6 Anyone who is in him does no sin; anyone who is a sinner has not
seen him and has no knowledge of him. 7 My little children, let no
man take you out of the true way: he who does righteousness is
upright, even as he is upright; 8 The sinner is a child of the Evil
One; for the Evil One has been a sinner from the first. And the Son of
God was seen on earth so that he might put an end to the works of the
Evil One. 9 Anyone who is a child of God does no sin, because he
still has God's seed in him; he is not able to be a sinner, because
God is his Father.
On the one hand, preachers tell their sheep that they must DAILY
confess their sins, but on the other they they lie to them, thus
sinning, by telling them that what John actually meant was that a
born-again believer does not "habitually" sin. This opens the door for
the sheep to sin, but not to sin "habitually". Must be nice to have
this built-in escape valve and not have to feel filthy like "those on
the outside." I wonder how long will it take for a Xtian reading this
to think: "He's taking these verse completely out of context! Well,
this is what happens when a person reads the Bible without the
in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit."
Of course, one can always use the excuse that the verbs are in the
present indicative so that this indicates a continuing action and thus
have the excuse that Weymouth was right and that it meant to
"habitually" sin. What an elastic work the Bible is to endure such
stretching.
Words to live by:
"1John 5:18 We are CERTAIN that one who is a child of God WILL DO NO
SIN, but the Son of God keeps him so that he is NOT TOUCHED by the
Evil One." (BBE, empahasis mine)

I think that just before I die I'm going to join
a Catholic monastary and become a monk.
That way, when I go to hell I can be a deep friar.
