CARTER
I've given you the example of the young boy and your newfound sexual urges.
You have yet to reply. Then the group will decide "who's right and who's
wrong."
POOBAH
Oh, yes, the group will decide. I'm not quite sure that's a good idea for
you though...
Of course, this request of yours is ingenuous anyway Jason. There are two
hypotheticals (Muslim who kills your mother, child sacrifice) that you have
never explained, why should Till or anyone else have to answer your question
until you first answer these others?
In any event, you were given an answer to this question. I refer you to
Derek's post on 3/23. So why don't you answer the above examples?
Before Jason tries to change the subject, I think now is a good time to
check the scoreboard before moving forward.
Jason asserted that those who don't believe in objective morality have no
"rational basis" for morality, or criticizing the actions of others. He has
been given several replies, all of which revolve around enlightened
self-interest. In particular, he was pointed to recent discoveries involving
game theory & the Prisoner's Dilemma. He has neither acknowledged nor
refuted any of them.
In return, he was asked to demonstrate the existence of objective morality.
I think it is fair to say that he has given *NO* evidence for the existence
of objective morality. If I am wrong he can refer me to the specific
evidence. He was asked to show that two specific actions are objectively
moral. One was a Muslim who killed Jason's mother as part of a crusade, and
the second was an assertion of Jason's. He claimed that "child sacrifice for
the sole purpose of enjoyment as an observable 'objectively' evil act." He
said it was "observably objective" and yet he has given no evidence of that.
His only argument, as far as I can see, is that if God exists then objective
morality must necessarily exist. This is a rational argument?
I don't think you're ready to have the folks here decide who is right & who
is wrong, unless of course you are just going to concede.
Of course, as always, if my characterizations are incorrect, I am happy to
be shown where I have made a mistake.
