>> Here is something of interest I learned about the ignorance that is
>>circulating in the local fundie community. Did you know that the
>>computer is the work of Satan? Well---Did you? First there is the
>>matter of the 6's on the UPC. I had somehow hoped that they would take
>>this to heart and starve to death, but unfortunately some things are
>>sold without the UPC on it.
>> The second bit of silliness is that the Hebrew "w" = 6 so the "www"
>>we use refers to the "beast". I don't know the Hebrew alphabet and
>>therefore I don't know the numerical equivalent of "w". It is
>>immaterial since Hebrew uses a grouping system for numerals and "www"
>>would be 18 and not 666.
>> If anyone reading this knows the Hebrew letter for 6, please drop
>>me a line.

>Using Hebrew letters to represent numbers is traced to the period of the
>Maccabees. The first example of this usage is found on some Maccabean
>coins.
>
>The numbering system does not support "www" (Hebrew "vav-vav-vav") being
>equivalent to "666". That claim can only be made by someone unfamiliar
>with Hebrew. The numbering works like this:
>
>1-10 = letters aleph - tet
>tens = letters yod - tzadig
>100s = letters - qoph - tav
>
>The number "666" would be represented as "tav-resh-samech-vav",
>representing the following:
>
>(the Hebrew alphabet only takes you to 400 so higher numbers are
>represented by adding)
>tav + resh = 400 + 200 = 600
>samech = 60
>vav = 6
>400+200+60+6 = 666
>
>The letter "vav" stands for "6", but putting three vavs together does not
>equal either 666 or 18 in Hebrew. It is numerically meaningless. For
that
>matter, it is semantically meaningless as well.
CREA You'll get no quibbles on this one from me. However, if one chooses to play head-games with the fundies, it's always nice to start by pointing out that the Hebrew for the "Name of Jesus" or "Shem Yeshua" <shin-mem yod-heh-shin-waw-heh> totals to 666 and of course the "good book" tells us that there is no other NAME under heaven by which one can be saved (Acts 4:12) -- so we should all hail the Antichrist who is thus demonstrated to be God's chosen instrument for mankind's redemption. ;-) BRIDEAN I used to have some fun letting A=x, B=x+y, C=x+2y, ect. so that I would get a linear combination for the entire alphabet. I then add the numbers to get 666. There are many names that can be made to add to 666 by this method (however not ALL names work). For example, let A = -12, B = -5, C = 2, ect. adding 7 to each letter. Then Farrell Till becomes 23-12+107+107+16+65+65+121+44+65+65=666. Curiously enough the only name I tried this on that did NOT work is the full real name of the creator of www.antichrist.com. I could not get his name to add to 666 using the above method. Using this method there are two ways that Jesus can be made to add up to 666. One is let A=78, B=82, C=86, (adding 4 each time) Jesus = 114+94+150+158+150=666 Or a more interesting way is let A=9, B=18, C=27, (each letter is a multiple of 9) Jesus = 90+45+171+189+171=666
