These are all explainable. I started my own car once without a battery. The
process is as follows.
1) Turn the key on.
2) Push and hold down the clutch.
3) Push the car so that it is already traveling at some velocity.
4) Put the car in gear while the clutch is still down.
5) Slowly release the clutch.
The above process will cause the alternator to turn which will generate enough
electricity to start the car.
The other things you mention are explainable too.
