BRUCE:
But if Paul is the "worst of all sinners" and he was still able to be saved,
then that means NO ONE has ever been worse than him in their sin, and thus,
no one has ever done anything which would be termed an unpardonable sin.
DERSPATZ:
>2) Repentance is a spiritual gift. (See Acts 5:31, Acts 11:18, and

BRUCE:
But what about those people who do not believe in God (or more specifically,
religion) are NOT troubled about it? Are they beyond redemption? Is the
atheist really *worse* than the devout Christian husband & father (John
List) who brutally murdered his wife and mother and then murders his three
kids as they arrive home from school one at a time, cleaning up the bloody
mess prior to each child coming home--a process taking several hours? He
then writes a letter to his pastor explaining that he had to kill them
because he felt they were drifting away from the church toward evil and that
killing them was the only way he could save them. He then disappears for 18
years, having acquired a new identity, remarried, and reentered the church.
He was discovered after being detailed on America's Most Wanted. He showed
no remorse for his actions, and yet he remains stronger than ever in his
"faith" in Jesus.
When I ask "christians" about such things and compare the John Lists of the
world with people such as Farrell Till (I won't even bring people like Jimmy
Swaggart and Jim Baker into the discussion), they invariably say that the
Tills of the world are the worst of the lot because they are outspokenly
condemning god from a position of authority (a former pastor), and that is
unpardonable. In dealing with the disturbing implications of such atrocious
acts by peole like John List, they simply put on their rosy glasses and
proclaim, "God had his reasons for taking those children into heaven
(automatically presupposing that they actually went to heaven to be with
Jesus and not into Hell--what about when a Hindu, or Islamic or Aboriginal
child is murdered? What about when a child kills him/herself with the
loaded 44 magnum in their father's drawer?), and it is beyond our puny human
brains to understand the reaoning of God!"
I would ask you to create the exact same scenario with the same tortured
logic, but take god and religion out of the picture. What you are left with
is just pathological, unsound (insane), reasoning. If all such acts are the
"will of god" then I guess we don't really need any prisons or psychiatric
hospitals for the criminally insane?
