Just what do you mean by rebirth of a civilization Brian, if everyone and
everything in the world, except the people on the Ark, were wipe out by
the flood; just how in the world would you expect there to be a rebirth of
"these" Civilizations. Furthermore, you have been saying the flood would
wipe out the pyramids and everything else in its path, so by your own
account there would not be any evidence of any ruins left, correct.
POOBAH
Well that's the point. Despite your protestations, you've given no evidence
that there was no civilization prior to 2370 BC. There is plenty of evidence
that there was. So unless you deny that evidence (which you seemingly do),
then someone must have resumed the prior civilizations as if they had never
ceased.
As for the so-called universality of Flood myths, I could appeal to Joseph
Campbell or Jung, what then? For agriculture & transportation, the most
likely places to settle are near water, where flooding is an ever-present
danger. Just today on the news here in Seattle was a discussion of Tsunami's
in the Pacific rim, and how an earthquake in the Northwest can cause
Tsunami's in Japan. Point being, flooding is an ever-present danger for just
about every society. Now I'd like to see some proof of the following
assertion from your Bible encyclopedia: "The universality of the flood
accounts is usually taken as evidence for the universal destruction of
humanity by a flood and the spread of the human race from one locale and
even from one family. Though the traditions may not all refer to the same
flood, apparently the vast majority do." According to whom are they usually
taken as evidence, and who says the vast majority refers to the same flood?
But let's leave that aside for now. I'd like to see evidence that the
traditional Egyptian dating is wrong. I'd like to see evidence that the
artifacts currently dated as 3500-3000BC are so incorrectly dated that they
must be post-flood. Until then, archeological evidence still says that
civilizations that existed after the date of your flood existed prior to it.
And even when you finish with that, you must still deal with geology,
meteorology, botany, logistics & engineering.
