It may not have been unusual for children to be destroyed along with
their parents, however one has to remember that this is expressly prohibited
by old hairy thunderer YHWH himself over in Deuteronomy 24:16, and this same
ukase is reiterated at Second Kings 14:6 & Second Chronicles 25:4 as well
as at Ezra 18:20. It is perhaps needless to say that this is in direct
opposition to the several directives from the same omniscient, inerrant,
infallible deity to kill various of the indigenous Caananite nations root
and stock, down to fetuses in their mothers' wombs and the LIVESTOCK (! the
Amalekites come to mind: First Samuel 15:2-3).
