Achilles I am quite sure a major feature of the site was evidence of the early and longterm use of the caves there for burials. I found full citation on the original excavation, by the way, I will try to get a copy via inter-library loan though knowing the library I am dealing with that will probably take quite a bit of time to come through. It's Baggatti, Bellarmino. 1969. Excavations in Nazareth. Vol. 1, from the beginning till the XII century, translated by E. Hoade. Publications of the Studium Biblicum Fransciscanum 17. Jerusalem, Fransciscan Printing Press. The synagogue and cliff aren't relevant to the question of whether Nazareth existed as a village at the time it is supposed to have, but it certainly would be another good instance of textual errancy.
