The only dig I have found reference to on the site was conducted by a
franciscan named Bellarmino Bagatti conducted between 1955 and 1960. Apparently
while he did find that Nazareth was "refounded" in Hasmonean times, he also
found evidence for it's earlier existence from bronze age times, as a tiny
village.
Have only found secondary sources, however. Still hoping to find a original
sources for his work, and later references in journals. Unfortunately, they may
just not be on the net, and since I no longer have University Library access I
may be at a dead end.
