Obviously Carter wasn't on the list when "GoodGuy" was thrashed on
"martyrdom of apostles" topic, so here I am reposting that exchange between
Farrell & GoodGuy.

GOODGUY
It seems that non-believers find credibility in what they want to find
credible, and that is very unfortunate. First of all to say that the
apostles possibly did not exist shows much about your depth of research in
the area. Much of history is "a knowledge of the past based upon
testimony". If you dont believe the countless testimonies of the apostles,
eyewitnesses of the apostles, eyewitnesses of Jesus Christ, historians,
theologians, etc... I dont know what to say to you. You would agree that
Napolean lived, and you probably agree that you have never seen him. You
find countless testimony for Napolean credible but the thousands of
testimonies for Jesus Christ mean nothing to you? That is intellecual
suicide friend. I think you have been looking in the wrong places for your
"apostle data". (if you have looked at all) I would like you to start
simple with the Encyclopedia Brittanica. Youll find that the British
Scholar Herbert Workman describes Peters death. How does one look past the
Encyclopedia Britannica when in the midst of research? Pascal, the French
philosopher writes: "The allegation that the apostles never existed or were
imposters is quite absurd." Writer, professor and Christian activist Paul
Little asks, "Are these men, who helped transform the moral structure of
society, cosummate liars or deluded madmen? These alternatives are harder
to believe than the ressurection, and there is no shred of evidence to
support them." Im sure I could find some wierdo that wrote a book that says
that Elvis lives. In the same respect I couldnt denounce all the evidence I
could find against Elvis' existence. With any study at all you will realize
that your claim that the apostles did not exist is absolutely absurd. As
for your "conflicting" apostle stories, where are you getting them?
Muslims, Christians, Jews, atheists, agnostics, and probably even
exceptionally intelligent monkeys alike agree on the apostles existence and
methods of martyrdom. (those who have researched it that is) What a shame
you dismiss the bible as any evidence for the apostles! When I come across
people like yourself it reminds me of a quote by a famous historian, Dr.
Clark H. Pinnock: "There exists no document from the ancient world
witnessed by so excellent a set of textual and historical testimonieand
offering so superb an array of historical data on which an intelligent
decision may be made. An honest [person] cannot dismiss a source of this
kind. Skepticism regarding the historical credentials of Christianity is
based upon an irrational bias." According to the word of God, the
Encyclopedia Brittanica, and COUNTLESS historians, theologians, etc.....
the apostles not only existed but died for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
as martyrs:
1. Peter- crucified
2. Andrew- crucified
3. Matthew- death by sword
4. John- natural causes (even though your story was quite interesting)
5. James, son of Alphaeus- crucified
6. Philip- crucified
7. Simon- crucified
8. Thaddaeus- killed by arrows
9. James, brother of Jesus- stoned (you should read more about this
particularmartyr, he was quite interesting)
10. Thomas- spear thrust
11. Bartholomew- crucified
12. James, son of Zebedee- the sword
Instead of writing about the "controversial?" topic of the existence of the
apostles, maybe your next writing could be titled: "Did Christopher
Columbus actually live?"
Never tire of researching friend, God bless
