CARTER Mythological tendancies overriding/replacing a historical event takes long periods of time. The earliest Christian references to the crucifxion, death, and resurrection of Christian can be dated as early as the A.D. 30's. POOBAH Perhaps when you are digging up some of your scholars that recently claimed the Gospels were no older than 200AD you can produce some early Christian references to the crucifixion from the fourth decade AD. Finally, your assertion that "Mythological tendancies overriding/replacing a historical event takes long periods of time" is quite simply false. Let me pull a modern example out of my hat... let's see, oh, let's take Roswell, NM as an example that clearly was a matter of folklore very early. Till's latest issue of TSR deals with the "modern Jonah" which shows how early myth-making can occur. Present day media hoaxes demonstrate this as well.
