You missed it again Tim. If you read the ENTIRE sentence, you wouldn't make
yourself look as dumb. A person who is an authority on a matter who has
critically researched something long enough to gain certitude in it's
truthfulness is justified in lending the benefit of the doubt. I'm sorry
you cannot grasp this concept.
POOBAH
Why don't you tell us how long Mr. Miller has researched. Then,
hypothetically, if I can point out a member of the Jesus Seminar who has
researched longer, or heaven forbid an atheist who has researched longer,
then you will have to give them the greater benefit of the doubt and admit
that your religion is a sham, will you not? If I can find a biologist who
has studied evolution longer than Mr. Miller, surely you will have to give
provisional acceptance to that as well?
Secondly, why don't you go ahead & tell us why you accept Mr. Miller's
assessment of the dating of the Gospel of Thomas, and why you don't accept
similar critical assessments of the dating of 2nd Peter, Jude, the Pastoral
Epistles, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Daniel, etc.
These two questions are really two sides of the same coin; you see, Jason,
you apply ad hoc reasoning to your religion. You expect all of us skeptics
to apply one standard to your claims, but you refuse to apply the same
standard to claims you disagree with. This is dishonest.
Of course, you can always prove me wrong...
