In Marks account, it does not say when the rooster crowed the first time.

You missed it! Verse 68 is the first denial and the rooster crowed.
Verse 70 is the second denial.
Verse 71 is the third denial.

Also notice verse 72 where it says that "a second time the rooster crowed." 
which would have to mean that verse 68 was the first time the rooster crowed, 
but according to John the rooster would not crow till after the third denial. 
Verse 68 of the account in Mark has the rooster crowing after the first 
denial. If you'll read what Jesus actually predicted in John and read what 
actually happened in Mark you'll see the failed prediction.
