Mr. Sherman,
I am happy to let you have the last word on this issue and let the evidence
speak for itself. I will not respond to any of your claims below, except to
note that I am forwarding your response to the errancy list so that they can
judge the accuracy of the statements. Others may have things to say about
your claims if they feel them worth the time. If you, or anyone else, would
like to check the accuracy of these claims, I would direct you to the
errancy list archives at:
http://www.auburn.net/~errancy/archive/1999/mar99/
Unfortunately, it looks as if the archive has not been updated since March
11, but that does include the majority of your sojourn.

POOBAH (past)
Nonetheless, I think we can still call Mr. Sherman a liar without resorting
to ad hominem:
* He claimed extrabiblical support for miracles, and could not produce any.
SHERMAN
I did including the Talmud.
POOBAH (past)
* He claimed expertise in probability, and I think it was fairly well
demonstrated that was a lie.
SHERMAN
I did not. I said that is where my strengths lie. I claimed neither
expertise nor education there.
POOBAH (past)
* He claimed expertise in science, but I think that his understanding of
evolution shows the lie of that claim.
SHERMAN
Not at all true. The low debate of the list has not given us ample
opportunity to discuss punctuated equilibrium, the fossil record and gaps,
Mechanistic vs. Theistic Evolution and its dynamics, etc. and that at
Till's insistence.
POOBAH (past)
* He misrepresented statements made by individuals on this list about the
historicity of Luke, about archeological discoveries of idols in Israel.
SHERMAN
Never. Name one.
POOBAH (past)
* He claimed that evidence of vestigial features did not exist; when
presented with evidence that they did, he claimed that they were
unimportant. This implies that he was arguing dishonestly, since he didn't
really think his first point was important.
SHERMAN
Never said unimportant. They do not exist! Manipulating a chicken's DNA to
make teeth does not show a vestigial organ. It might show vestigial DNA,
however. When I find intelligent responses, I may argue intelligently in
kind.
POOBAH (past)
* He was ready to enter into a debate with Till, and now all of the sudden
he has no time. Either the fact that he now has no time is a lie, or he was
being dishonest before when he said he had time for a debate.
SHERMAN
Mr. Till initiated proceedings for a formal, public debate one and one and
then a debate one on one on the list. He retracted the last claim,
certainly. I have all day and night to debate a poor debater like Till, but
little time for the pontifications of the list members.
POOBAH (past)
* Based on comments others have made, he has made false claims about the
Talmud after it was pointed out those claims were false, which appears
dishonest.
SHERMAN
Beg your pardon? Which of the following are not found in the Talmud? It is
also arguable as to the dating of the Talmud. Till quotes liberal critics
who date the Talmud far later than the Qumran and Essene discoveries and
more allow.
Talmudic Portions:
+ Sanhedrin 106a. "She who was the descendant of princes and governors
played the harlot with carpenters." *Also in footnote #2 to Shabbath 104b it
is stated that in the "uncensored" text of the Talmud it is written that
Jesus' mother, "Miriam the hairdresser," had sex with many men. (Mary,
descended from great ones, was poor in status. Joseph was not Jesus' natural
father. One had to believe or deny the virgin birth.)
+ A passage from Sanhedrin 106: "'Hast thou heard how old Balaam (Jesus)
was?'-He replied: 'It is not actually stated but since it is written, Bloody
and deceitful men shall not live out half their days it follows that he was
thirty-three or thirty-four years old.'" (Psalm 55:22-23 referred to; Jesus
began ministry at "about thirty years of age!"-Luke 3:23)
+ Sanhedrin 43a. Says Jesus ("Yeshu" and in footnote #6, Yeshu "the
Nazarene") was executed because he practiced sorcery. (Jesus of Nazareth was
killed because He did miracles!)
+ Gittin 57a. Says Jesus (see footnote #4) is being boiled in "hot
excrement." (Jews of Bible times believed in Hell; Jesus was regarded as in
league with Beelzebub.)
+ Sanhedrin 43a. "On the eve of the Passover, Yeshu was hanged...Do you
suppose that he was one for whom a defense could be made? Was he not a{n}
Mesith (enticer)?" (Jesus was crucified (hanged) on Passover; Jesus made/had
no defense on His own behalf; He had followers who were led through His
teachings and ministry and traveled with Him.)
+ God is so good! - Matt Sherman
POOBAH (past)
In short, I think based on the evidence above it is safe to say that the
Matt Sherman who presented himself to the list is a liar, but he was lying
for Christ, so I guess that's okay.
SHERMAN
It is not okay to lie for Christ or anyone else. By the way, if this is all
you could come up with, I look pretty honest.
