Joe Alward:
Thanks very, very much for your help. I've fixed (1), but (2) confuses me: I
wrote it as I intended. Maybe I confuse people by following Thursday Day with
a Friday Night; the first part of a Jewish day is a night, right? Or, is your
problem with the assumption that Jesus was entombed on Thursday day, not
night? Can you clarify?
DAVE
The proper designation (the one I grew up with and all scholars and writers
that I know use) is the night that follows Wednesday is referred to as
*Wednesday* evening or night. The same would follow with Thursday and Friday. I
understand your motive for what you did as after all, acc. to Jewish reckoning a
new day begins at sunset. But all the writers, pastors and apologists I have
always known refer to the night by our common usage. This would be your best
bet, as to avoid confusion with your readers. Ask the average person when Friday
night occurs and I bet 99 percent of the time they will say "following Friday
day". I am sure you will see this is a designation of convenience on your web
site. Anyway, take care,
Dave Mooney
In (3), tell me if the following would be acceptable: "Mooney backs up this
evidence with 61 references to *apo*, Greek for the word "since", used in
reference to a series; in each case it was clear by context that the word was
meant in the inclusive sense."
I will get to your other criticisms tomorrow (Sunday). Thanks again.
