WASHBURN
Claire, is this the best you can do - arguing against straw men? I
didn't ask about Social Security, Planned Parenthood, schooling for poor
kids, or any of that crap. I asked how you feel about money taken from
unwilling taxpayers to support Catholics socializing with other
Catholics.

Jim, hardly any money from church contributions has gone to pay for my
partying with my fellow Catholics. We paid for most of the socializing
directly out of our own pockets. The only social activity I can think of
that was paid for by the church was the annual parish picnic, which was
basically a backyard barbecue done on a small budget. It wasn't a
champagne-and-caviar affair.
Why are you accusing me of "straw men" arguments when I bring up
organizations such as Planned Parenthood? The fact is, I am an unwilling
(indirect) sponsor of Planned Parenthood because donations to this
organization are tax-deductible (as are church donations). If you take
away the tax-deductibility of church donations because taxpayers are
"unwilling" to support churches, then you should also have to take away
the tax-deductibility of donations to Planned Parenthood and other
nonprofit organizations.
By the way, I have temporarily un-sxscribed to errancy, because I am
getting ready to move. If you would like me to respond quickly, you
should copy me (so I don't have to wait for your message to show up in
the archive). I hope to re-sxscribe by next month.
