CLAIREDear Mr. Till: In this forum, atheists can voice any anti-Christian opinion they please, without any fear that you or another member of the atheist majority on this list will say that it is "off-topic" or demand any support for the opinion. BRIDEAN I seem to recall that this wasn't true for the micturating MsFitt esp. when his/her posts started to become a bit outrageous. CLAIRE However, if a Christian challenges the atheist's opinion, he or she is the one who is scolded for going off-topic. (I don't mind going off-topic; I just don't want to be the only one who is chided for doing so.) Also, I believe that atheists have much more freedom to cite atheist sources than Christians have to cite Christian sources (or even non-Christian sources who happen to agree with their views). I say this, because no matter how many sources I cite, or who these sources are, it's never good enough for the people on this list. Here are a few messages which may help to illustrate what I mean. Atheists often attack Christians for issues unrelated to Bible errancy - but I don't see them being scolded for this. But I was criticized when I tried to defend the Catholic Church on issues that were brought up by atheists! (Discussion about tax-exempt status of churches - what does this have to do with errancy?) http://www.auburn.net/~errancy/archive/1997/nov97/000390.html BRIDEAN This was probably later, but I believe IAN theorized based on the pentateuch that the primary purpose of the Jewish religions and their derivatives is to make money. I could be wrong about this though. CLAIRE (Assisted suicide discussion - note that Claire did not start it!) http://www.auburn.net/~errancy/archive/1997/nov97/000310.html BRIDEAN There is nothing in the Bible that I know of that is for, or against, assisted suicide. The death of Saul may, or may not have been, an example of assisted suicide (the various accounts contradict each other in this regard). CLAIRE (Nancy Todd attacks RC Church for history of atrocities) http://www.auburn.net/~errancy/archive/1997/nov97/000345.html BRIDEAN There are many similar atrocities that occur in the Bible UNDER GOD'S COMMAND. So I guess the RC Church is merely following the Bible in these cases. CLAIRE (Discussion about septuplets - now what does this have to do with Bible errancy?) http://www.auburn.net/~errancy/archive/1997/nov97/000607.html BRIDEAN I don't know. CLAIRE (Claire defends her "tactics") http://www.auburn.net/~errancy/archive/1997/nov97/000734.html (Ian Dorion starts a thread about World AIDS day, and blames conservative Christians for blocking sex education and condom promotion efforts. I certainly don't have a problem with him posting this, but it is off-topic.) http://www.auburn.net/~errancy/archive/1997/dec97/000021.html BRIDEAN Not if he can point out that there is nothing in the Bible which directly condemns this, unless you take certain passages in Genesis and Deuteronomy rather loosely. CLAIRE (Jim Washburn gets in an insult to the RC Church and then says that we should not discuss it because Farrell Till is tired of the non-errancy chatter) http://www.auburn.net/~errancy/archive/1998/feb98/000931.html *ect. snip* BRIDEAN I agree that you are not the only one who brings up stuff not related to Bible errancy. I am also occasionally guilty of posting stuff not related to Bible errancy. But to make a blanket statement such as atheists never get criticized, or that Christians are always automatically criticized, is too general of a statement to make. I can give counter examples of either case.
