A dream could be both horizontal and vertical. God has been known
to speak to people in dreams. The difference in this case was I was
not sleeping and the experience was not one of a visual, earthly
nature.
WALT
Somehow you read "vertical" vice "veridical" in Crea's question above.
However, since his question(based upon your mis-read) impelled you to
provide a nonsense answer, what kind of dream is "vertical/horizontal",
and why?
RON
In theological usage "horizontal" represents the earthly plane. For
instance you and I are communicating horizontally. "Vertical" represents
communication between material and spiritual realms. This is based on
the old (Hellenistically inspired) understanding of a "higher" (more
worthy) spiritual realm and a "lower" (less worthy) material world. This
derives from the use of Aristotle, Plato and other philosophers' terms
by influential Christian philosophers, especially Aquinas. The Semitic
understanding is more unitive. The materail and spiritual, though
distinct, coexist and are both worthy, having been created by God. Human
beings (Jesus Christ included!) are composed of both matter and spirit.
