DAVID
<< >>I have just read the Religion column by Rev. Frederick C. Hearn (Feb.
21). In it he claims that Paul (in 1 Corinthians 15) believed and taught
that Jesus was bodily resurrected from the dead. What did Paul actually
say? That Jesus appeared to, or, was seen by (ophthe in Paul's Greek),
Cephas (Peter), the twelve disciples, five hundred unnamed people, James,
all the apostles, and finally to Paul himself. In each case Paul uses the
same verb, "ophthe", that he uses for himself. >>
Note another subtle clue as to what Paul really meant:
Acts 10:40 (NIV) but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused
him to be seen.
Acts 10:41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had
already chosen--by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
Acts 13:30 (NIV) But God raised him from the dead,
Acts 13:31 and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him
from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people.
God caused him to be visible only to the believers? Hmmm..
