Apparently, Dick, read something that was a vague corruption of some of
the older Jewish source material on Jesus and the leaders of the ancient
Jewish Ha Nostri sect that may have been the source of the Jewish
details in the myth of Jesus. There is an excellent essay on this at:

HELEN:
This would have been unnecessary since this detail is from Matthew,
which already has the High Priest defile himself by doing work on the
night of the Passover meal. I don't think that cutting of the ear would
have been as disqualifying an act as the defilement of pretending to
drink human/god blood( a complete violation of the code given to Noah,
even more binding than the Torah) and eat human/god flesh in mimicry of
several pagan rites during the sacred and Torah requires of all Jews
rite of the Passover Seder (the ritual meal).
