Paul Boyer's book "When Time Shall be no More" is an excellent overview of
the whole pre-millenial/fundamentalist eschatalogical mindset. He dows
devote quite a bit of space to the issue of how the various "prophets"
adjusted their forecasts when it became apparent that the Soviet Union was
no more. He also shows that this was by no means unique. Throughout
history, Christians have seen the "signs of the times" in their own
generations, and have had to adapt when the expected end failed to
materialise.

prophecies that are due to be fufilled (according to their proponents
