This exchange (with Fuller I think?) makes me wonder how many people accept a religion without even thinking as to what it's all about. I wholeheartedly accepted Christianity, but only because I was five years old and everyone I trusted (parents, family, friends, pastors, other authority figures) told me it was true. Even after I started asking questions, they always had a reasonable answer. Until one day, they just couldn't answer my questions anymore, and then they got mad at me for asking. The more I asked, the angrier they got, and then I decided to answer the questions for myself. I read the bible, I read the Church Fathers, I read up on ancient history, the history of the Church, etc. And when I realized that the whole entire thing was just a hodge-podge of various superstitions and cults that had grown up around the Mid-East during the dawn of writing, no one could give me a better explanation. And I'm still waiting. What with all the churches on every corner, the thousands of bible schools, seminaries, "church leadership retreats," etc., ad naseum, I would expect someone to be able to lay out a simple storyline free of contradictions that incorporates all of the various evidence. But the only story line that the evidence fits is a that few charasmatic individuals scared the superstitious local populace with stories of gods, demons, miracles, and eternal roasting in hell in order to get money, a place to stay, and some kind of community fame. And when I look around at religion today, I see the EXACT SAME THING. Sorry, not about errancy I guess, but it's my personal story as to how I finally accepted that the bible is a big piece of fiction. Scott
