That's sad, but remember that those who were killed were also Muslims. Most
of these killings are politically motivated. Algerian civil war started in
1992 when military (still the ruling dictator) canceled the election in
which FIS (an Islamic fundamentalist Party) was about to win. 

I don't support Algeria's military dictatorship. Even though I oppose
fundamentalists, but I don't agree with sacrificing democracy to stop them.
If Algerian people were voting for FIS then that was their choice. Military
had no right to cancel the election and impose their own dictatorship. The
result of this blatant injustice is the Civil War. As a result, about 70000
people killed sine 1992. Fundamentalists are not the only one responsible;
many thousands were (and are) slaughtered by the government to suppress
FIS. Since both France and Israel are strong supporter of Algerian military
dictatorship, so you can also expect a lot of propaganda. "Fundamentalists
are doing the killing," they say; but what about the government? How many
thousands were slaughtered by the government?
