The "response of most of humanity throughout history" has been to interpret
everything it didn't understand by "intuiting" gods. Hence, ancient
societies had gods of rain, thunder, volcanoes, etc., etc., etc. However,
it seems that the more humanity learned, the less need it saw for gods.
Finally, every mystery was resolved by postulating just one big god, but as
time wears on and discovery is piled onto discovery, humanity will probably
reach a point where it sees no need for even this one big fellow.
