One of the great selling points of religion is that it can provide
answers to the big questions - why are we here? what is the meaning of
life?

What is the answer it gives?
It's a mystery.

BRIDEAN
After studying Zen I came to the conclusion that "What is the
meaning of life?" is itself a meaningless question. If you did
have the answer to it, what would really change? As the Buddha
said, if you are shot by an arrow it makes no difference whether
the person who shot you was from the Shakya clan or from the
Clampetts. It also makes no difference what direction the arrow
came from or at what velocity it was traveling. The answer to
all of these questions does not help you to take care of your
wound.

So what would you do if you had the answer to "What is the meaning
of life?" Would you go to a different doctor when you are sick
or eat different foods, or have a different job? Even if life
had no meaning or purpose, it is still a life. I would still have
to go to work everyday in order to maintain this life. So even
a life with NO meaning is livable. The "meaning" does not really
answer the question of HOW to live your life.

Just my thoughts.
