I have only just joined this group so if my question has been hashed
and re-hashed please forgive me. After more than a few years of study
concerning the teachings in the Bible in general and Christianity in
particular, I have come to the conclusion there are some serious
questions which must be addressed. I admit, I am disturbed and angry at
some of the things I have found. My "revelation" came in small ways and
I was always able to rationalize, harmonize or explain away some of the
errors in the Bible. (many are errors in interpertation [IMHO] )

*a lot of stuff sniped*

I got past all this -- BUT the one thing I CAN NOT get past is the idea
of human sacrifice. How can killing one - atone for the sin of
another? (I probably should have prepared for this better... My
Christian brethren would have demanded it) But in the OT God let it be
known through his prophets that he did not want human sacrifice...
(sacrifice of any kind just doesn't make sense to me!) But then in the
NT he turns right around and "sacrifices" his "only begotton son" so
that "our" sins could be forgiven? I don't know how I could have been
so stupid as to "buy" that doubletalk.

First of all the sacrifice of Jesus was not of the same nature as
ritual sacrifices. Jesus' willing death was similar to the "sacrifice' a
fireman might make of his own life in an effort to save another life.
Surely you can see the difference in nature of this type of sacrifice.
Also, in a way this was a sacrifice of God Himself, by Himself. This was
the point of the story of Abraham and the sacrifice of Isaac: God did
what He would not require of us. All other sacrifices pale in comparison
to this one. Another important point is that Jesus cannot be kept down
(or even put down without his consent)! His sacrifice was with His own
consent, in accordance with the Will of the Father and in the Power of
the Holy Spirit.
