BRIDEAN (to errancy)
I may have let myself be traped here, but I was wondering
if any of you can help me out.
It seems that there is a difference in our usage of "I saw an X"
whether X is unusual or not. If I say I saw a person today and
later on I say I saw three people, normal experience tells us
that this is not unlikely. However, compare that to angels.
RONCRISS
OK, let's start all over! I was referring to the angels in the
Christian Bible, not the Quran. I hope this was not just a trick to
squirm out of this! I'm not interested in proving the veracity of the
Quran at this point. Now go back and try to answer all the below
questions in this context please.
As far as the fig tree is concerned, Jesus was simply using it as an
example. (se my previous e-mail). I'm satisfied with the explanations
I've seen on this.
By the way, I haven't been on line for a few days because I had a
minor back strain and didn't want to aggravate it by sitting for long
periods. It's somewhat better now.
BRIDEAN (see below for what transpired, I used the Quran because
I have brought up arguments for the inerrancy of the Quran to
show that he uses the same argumentation).
BRIDEAN
If by the context you meant AT THE SAME TIME, then it would be a
contradiction. The example of Mary seeing 'one' or 'many' angels
is an example of THE SAME EVENT and therefore OCCURED AT THE SAME
TIME.
RONCRISS
O.K., let's see you squirm out of this one! Where does it say "one"
angel SPECIFICALLY?
BRIDEAN
Let's try Sura 19:17-18 where it says, among other things indicating
singular "OUR ANGEL" and not "OUR ANGELS". Even your apologist
friend admits that this is ONE angels that was refered to as
plural to add honor to him. Let's see you squirm out of this one.
Or maybe you are making stuff up, like the fruit appearing BEFORE
the leaves?
RONCRISS
If you cannot show me then you are obviously distorting the facts no
matter how educated you are in the art of logic! I saw "a" person
yesterday. I also saw many people yesterday.
BRIDEAN
And I guess that means that you also saw Martians and Pink Unicorns
yesterday. Seeing "a person" would not exclude those possibilities
either.
Although seeing "an angel" or "a person" does not exclude the
possibility of seeing "three angels" or whatever number you have
to go with what is credible. I see people everyday and so do you.
So if I say that I saw a person, normal experience would tell you
that it is likely that I might have seen more than one person
and that I am singleing out a particular person for some reason.
Now given this reasoning, if I told you that I saw "A pink unicorn"
today, are pink unicorns normal enough in your everyday experience
that you would assume that I probably saw more than one pink unicorn
but that I'm singling out one of them for some reason?
But then since you see "angels" every day, I must assume that if you
told me that you saw "an angel" it is probable that you might have
seen a bunch of them but that you are singling out this particular
one for some reason.
RONCRISS
This is not a contradiction. Now quote me chapter and verse where it
says "one" angel, not "an" angel or "a" young man. Unless you can
show me this you have NO contradiction based on your own words!!!
This will prove finally that you are willing to bend the facts in
order to create your contradictions!
BRIDEAN
And you seem to be willing to bend facts in order to 'explain'
contradictions. How about your example of Einstein's theory of
relativity to 'explain' why King Ahaziah was 22 versus 42 when he
began his reign? Or since you probably don't remember that, how
about:
1) The fact that the fig tree had leaves means that it must have
had fruit (but this would imply that it was IN SEASON) I even
quoted a source more reasoned than you that said that the leaves
appear BEFORE the fruit does.
versus
2) Mark 11:13 (NAB) "... When he reached it he found nothing but
leaves; it was NOT THE TIME FOR FIGS"
