Ralph judges books by their covers. Like all English teachers, he is concerned only with appearance -- not the goodness or rottenness underneath. Ralph picks people whose ideas he dislikes but cannot rebut logically and rationally, and who also seem to make more than the usual share of careless mistakes in English. Being unable to judge an idea, he can only go by commas in the wrong place. He grades English mechanically without understanding a word of what is said. He is nothing but a Fool. Dick Jones "There is no surer way to misread any document than to read it literally. As nearly as we can, we must put ourselves in the place of those who uttered the words, and try to divine how they would have dealt with the unforeseen situation; and, evidence of what they would have done, they are by no means final." --Learned Hand, US Court of Appeals, 1924-1951
