I will resist the urge to speculate on *why,* but this is not a new policy
for Matt - ever since I joined the list I have noticed how he picks and
chooses what you will reply to. He still has given no substantial response
to my posting of an inductive syllogism based on his own statements which
showed them to be inconsistent for instance. He confines himself to
attacking perceived weaknesses, he quits responding when he sees that his
own weakness is being exposed. Fortunately Matt is a bit, well, shall we be
excessively polite and say slow? So he usually doesn't realize when he is in
over his head until after everyone else has seen it.
Still, I don't see what the point is in even trying to debate someone that
uses the tactics Matt does. If you want to keep the debate going you have to
avoid saying anything substantial, as if and when you make a solid point he
will just quit responding to you - or else go on a fallacious tangent. The
ad-hominen abusive seems to be his favourite but is certainly not the only
fallacious argument he uses. Too bad he never learned to make valid
arguments instead of wasting all his time on the fine points of fallacy.
I have been discussing various issues on the internet long enough to know
the difference between a debater and a flamer. Matt is clearly the latter.
My advice is just ignore him... of course if you don't agree that's fine
too, just be aware of the futility of it.
