Sorry, when I say "natural" I am referring to a concept like "natural law".
I didn't mean anything an animal does is natural.
John Hamilton
"Sex, as any naturalist can tell you, is for the purpose of procreation. God
made it that way . . ."
Since when is a reference to what a 'naturalist' would tell you a reference
to 'natural law'? A naturalist would be an expert on what animals do.
Secondly how can anything an animal does not be 'natural'?
RON
When I refer to something as natural I am referring to its intended
purpose. Of course for me, and I understand you don't agree, God is the
one who has determined natural processes for His intended purpose. Sex
has the primary function of procreation. Any other purposes are
secondary. Even an atheistic naturalist or scientist would agree with
that.
John Hamilton
You need to show that, even by your definition, 'secondary purposes' are not
'intended' purposes. Perhaps when your god designed sex he intended it for
procreation and as a source of income (not to mention pleasure). Perhaps he
intended it as a social 'glue' to hold groups together. How can you say
that any of what you are calling 'secondary' purposes are not 'intended' or
natural?
Ron
From their perspective the goal is to reproduce the gene type. For
example the purpose of sex is to perpetuate the species, not to
humiliate or degrade someone, even though a rapist might use it for that
purpose.
John Hamilton
You are being overly simplistic here, a naturalist would list the purposes
of sex as procreation, recreation, expressions of dominance and submission,
as a 'glue' to insure social cohesiveness (as stated above). None of those
purposes are 'un' natural and all of them may have been 'intended'.
