BTW, just so you don't misunderstand Ron.... I kill the animals I eat, I
buried my grandad a few months back, and I am quite acutely aware of death
as an aspect of reality... the "we" you refer to certainly does not include me.

>RON
> Well, I can at least appreciate your view. The reality of the violence
>of creation is something we try to force from our consciousness. Even
>Christians do this for the most part. But for many, probably most of the
>people in the world who suffer form hunger and war this aspect of
>reality is ever present. We deaden our consciousness with TV and
>overconsumption. When people die we paint them and dress them up as if
>they are alive and shove them in a hole ASAP so we don't have to face
>the reality. If we saw the killing of the animals we eat every day we
>would freak! People who are unaware of death make better consumers!
> Part of this failure to come to terms with reality, I believe, is our
>failure to see things from God's POV. He is conscious of and experiences
>it all Himself. I don't pretend to understand it all. I think the Hindu
>religion has grasped some of this reality in their concept of the god
>Shiva, the Destroyer. To them God possesses the attributes of
>Creator/Sustainer/Destroyer. It's just Reality! You have three options
>really: a God who is evil; a universe with NO purpose (and no God); a
>God who has created the world to be this way for His inscrutible (at
>least for now) purpose. Our perspective is subjective, but reality
>isn't.
