Adnan:
Another Christian with his evidence. What is the story with the "a fragment
from a tomb dated at 50ad which carries the inscription: Jesus - let him
arise"?

**************************************
Charlie:
While that may or may not be true of the `roman annals`, it doesn`t prove
very much:

For example: there is a fragment from a tomb dated at 50ad which carries
this inscription:

"Jesus - let him arise"

This points to at least three things:

-- _Someone_ thought it appropriate to address a person called Jesus and ask
him for something which was quite out of the realm of everyday experience
(i.e. the concept of rising from the dead)

-- The person Jesus was regarded as someone who had the power to do such a
thing (otherwise why say it?)

-- This person was regarded as something of an ultimate authority -
otherwise why not `go to the top` and ask God directly....

All this less than 20 (not 50) years after the traditional dating for the
resurrection!

Also, (to please Adnan who seems to love quoting the most liberal of
allegedly Christian scholars).

A liberal Anglican Bishop (John Robinson) published a book entitled
"Redating the New Testament".

After much research he dared to claim that the vast majority of the new
testament was written before 70AD - a period well within the living memory
of people still alive at that time. If Christianity was such a hoax, there
_must_ also have been a massive system of suppression in which those who
remember that the recorded events _didn`t_ happen were forced to keep quiet.

Given the obvious desire of the Jews at the time to be free from the
`threat` of the Christian `heresy`, this idea seems ludicrous. The Jews were
the ruling _religious_ class and would have lept at the chance to prove that
Christianity rested on a fraud - they simply couldn`t do it. There were too
many witnesses.

Perhaps it is time to stop throwing out sweeping generalisations and look at
the facts?

Peace
