When a human being is cloned, it will be accomplished without using
sperm. Will that mean that these
cloned humans will not be born with "sinful natures" and thus not be
born with original sin?
PHIPPS
More basic is the question "will they have a soul?" If no, what are the
implications of human beings with no souls (bearing in mind that I don't
believe in souls myself)? If yes, what are the implications of a soul
which god did not create?
In years past, this wasn't so much of a threat to xians because of its
purely hypothetical nature, but now that hypothetical situation is
becoming more and more plausible. It is reasonable to think that
someday a human will be grown from a non-ovum cell as well. If a human
is grown from skin cells, that takes the whole process even farther from
god's blueprint for how people come into existence. Will those people
have souls? >>

I think the church will have to accept these people as "God made." After
all, God made us (if you believe that). Remember, the church (I'm speaking
for the Roman Catholic church) is no stranger to science proving its views
wrong. Since Christ, the church has overcome that personal hygeine is good.
Also, it has accepted that the Earth is round. Not to mention Earth isn't
the center of the universe. And of course, there are things in transition
right now. Acceptance of homosexuality. Agreeance with evolution. Denial
of creation, the flood, Adam and Eve, and many Revelation stories. In
general, the Bible is going from "The Word of God" to a book which in part
was inspired by God. From there, who knows? My guess is down.
