I have a friend whose family moved to Abilene from NYC in the early '60's. (Talk about culture shock.) They had bought a bookstore sight unseen and had no clue as to what they were getting themselves into. Few if any other Jewish people, nothing but Bible colleges, and no cultural life other than churches. They had more bibles stolen from them each year than all other books combined. I recently read an article (sorry, forgot where) that said that this is still one of the biggest problems. Sometimes people switch boxes, putting an expensive bible in a box for a less expensive one. Must be all those secular humanists and atheists. Shame on you Mark--put those Gideon's back! (Unless it says that you make take them--I've been know to highlight some of the grosser passages with my trusty yellow marker.) susanbrown
