Dear Ian:
Yes, that's exactly what I did. But what is so terrible about that? Did
you read my announcement that I was going to mail all the rebuttals at
once? The title is "Claire's Belated Replies - Note: I am NOT
'spamming'". I copied and pasted people's questions / challenges into
WordPerfect documents and then prepared my responses in WordPerfect. I
estimate that I had to respond to at least 20 postings, some of which
could be grouped together because they dealt with related topics. I was
asked to provide evidence for my views on several issues, and I also had
to correct what I saw as people's misconceptions about certain things
(such as Hitler's Catholicism being a major reason that he exterminated
Jews). So I had to do a lot of research and typing. I am not sure that
you noticed that I went to some non-Catholic sources, such as The
History Place. I also quoted authors such as the sociologist Rodney
Stark (who may be an atheist) and the neurologist Oliver Sacks (who is
Jewish). So I didn't just go to Catholic sources. It helps me to have a
spell-checker when I am typing. When I copied and pasted excerpts of
documents from other websites, I often had to fix the formatting so they
would be easier for people to read. It is more convenient to fix the
formatting in WordPerfect than in an email window.
Did you expect me to just dash off lengthy replies (which would be
likely to contain spelling errors, since I seem to be prone to making
typos) right in my email window? Am I required to respond to five or six
related emails in a piecemeal way? If I had done these things, I would
have opened myself up to ridicule for my typos and ended up with YET
more emails that I had to answer; I was already overwhelmed. My replies
had to be lengthy because several complex issues were raised. You
mentioned that I added a lot of "extraneous bull--", but people were
asking me and challenging me about these "extraneous" things!! Am I to
understand that Christians are supposed to "stick to Biblical errancy"
but atheists can bring up anything they want?! You and Nancy seem to
feel this way.
I was offended by the assumption that I have been "brainwashed" simply
because I have not become an atheist like yourself. If there is no
objective reality, how can you say that atheism is better than
Catholicism? How can you be so sure that YOU haven't been brainwashed? I
am not a creationist/fundamentalist/inerrantist; but I am a Christian.
Do you think that ALL Christians are deluded fools?
