No, My answer to you would be the same as to Steve. The use of the
mother/child icon is very early in Christian art. The first two chapters of
gospel of Luke suggest that at least some groups were elevating Mary by the
time Luke collected the stories (which is what he said he did) for his
narrative which would be first century. I choose to answer Steve because I
don't have a lot of time right now and probably can't answer both of you.
You started with a false and hostile premise because no Christian church
has yet ever elevated Mary to Co-redemtrix and unless I'm mistaken the pope
is claiming personal meditation as a source for this suggestion not historic
fact. As I was looking through my books what all Christians did until the
reformation was not worship Mary, but adore Mary. We,.... I, should use the
right term and I apologize to the Catholics, especially Claire, and Orthodox
Christians, if we have any on the list, for the misuse of terms.
