(DAVE 5/21) Ralph: Great! Please tell me then which parts are
false, and who determines these parts?
DAR
When one part contradicts another part we know one of the
parts is false. There are many examples of this in Dave's
"inerrant" Bible. Perhaps the simplest example for him to try and
understand is whether Jesus asked for one Donkey (Mark, Luke)
or for two (Matthew). We don't know which one is false but we
do know one of them is. Perhaps it is best to chuck them both.
DAVE
Is the part about God existing true or false?
DAR
The god of the bible, Yahweh, is so pathetically ridiculous, it
is most certainly false. If there really was a good of some sort it
is inconceivable that he would have had anything to do with
these attrocious book the Bible.
I am reminded of a Ingersoll quote (as per usual):
"We are told in the Pentateuch, that god, the father of us all, gave
thousands of maidens, after having killed their fathers, their mothers,
and their brothers, to satisfy the brutal lusts of savage men. If there
be a god, I pray him to write in his book, opposite my name, that I
denied this lie for him." [Robert G. Ingersoll]
DAVE
How about the creation story - true or false?
DAR
Most certainly false. I don't think you even believe it. At least
you're not a youger earther are you?
DAVE
Did Jesus exist?
DAR
Very likely. Very uncertain as to how much he resembled the
fellow spoken of in the Bible though.
DAVE
How about Paul?
DAR
Quite certain. Complete scholarly agreement on this as far as I
know.
DAVE
How about Solomon?
DAR
No archaeological confirmation. Very well could have. I would
say probably. Perhaps a minor king of the goat herders.
From a letter to Bible Archaeology Review:
"...thousands of tenth-century B.C.E. ostraca and artifacts have been
found confirming the existence of minor neighboring kingdoms that
were contemporary with David and Solomon, but there is nothing, not
one potsherd, not a scrap, to confirm the greatness of the founders of
the United Monarchy." --Peter Vokac, Tucson, Arizona. Letter in BAR
Mar/Apr '95, pg. 20.
Interesting that Solomon was suppose to be the wisest and
also had the sense to give up on Yahweh in the end. Yahweh,
almighty creator of the universe must be real convincing when
experienced first hand, yeah.
DAVE
Did he have great riches...?
DAR
You might want to confirm his existence before conjuring up
the details of your mythology. The descriptions of riches
attributed to him in the Bible are ridiculously exaggerated.
DAVE
Where was Moserath?
DAR
No one knows. Most don't care. Where is the invisible pink
unicorn?
DAVE
Please tell us Ralph - that would be very exciting.
DAR
Please tell us where Jesus is. That could be very exciting.
<<zzzzzzzzzzzz>>
DAVE
No kidding Ralph - as if I actually thought you were completely
convinced the Bible was false - but I'll leave it to you to make
your determinations as to what is true and what is false.
DAR
I'll take Ralph's determinations of what is true or false over
Dave's any day. Ralph is not enslaved to the doctrine of
inerrancy.
DAVE
Your guess is as good as anyone's on your side - (or can you
actually prove something you say?).
DAR
This is Dave still wedded to his argument from ignorance. His
(this is a quote BTW):
"Disagree with me, but you can't prove this isn't true."
Actually, Ralph's guess would be far better than most and
certainly more authoritative than Dave's who, even with the help
of his holy ghost can't defend his doctrine of biblical inerrancy.
And I don't remember him proving anything he says. His
continued dependance upon the argument from ignorance is
evidence of this.
