Jerry, can you count?
In chapter 3 of Numbers, the Lord had a census taken of the Levites and
Moses came up with these figures:
Levi's Son Leader Census
Gershon Elisaph 7,500
Kohath Elizaphan 8,600
Mereri Zuriel 6,200
TOTAL---------------------------22,300
Notice how they all came out in even hundreds because this was
the only way the Hebrew Horde could multiply so fast -- that is,
the Lord had them multiply by the hundreds. However, my KJV states they
came up with only 22,000!
To add insult to injury, the Lord has Moses take a census of the males
of Israel from 1 month to 19 years and they came up with 22,273.
Why that's 273 more than the other tribes sayeth the Lord. You owe mr
for 273 bodies. I need 5 shekels apiece or 1,365 shekels to make us
even.
Aside from the poor math, the story is as stupid as one can imagine.
