HADLEY 7/22
Empathy. I recognize that other people are just like myself
and deserve to be treated the way I would want to be treated.
Why choose to obey "empathic" urges? Because upbringing and
experience has taught me that this is the way to happiness and
emotional well-being (or to switch it around, the way to
avoid pain and guilt).
Make sense? (From certain atheistic viewpoints I seem to
recall differences of opinion on empathy ... any objections
from the crowd?)
Paul Robson:
I've just been reading Richard Dawkins' "The Selfish Gene" which
makes a very good case for co-operation (with some threat of
retaliation) against agressive competition in terms of best chance
of Gene survival. (VERY simplified).
