In reqards to your last question. An unqualified yes. I would show them the
way. Now to reply about the water-tight fit of the door. It is a matter of
common sense about how to make a door opening water-tight. You have an
opening and a door that fits into that opening. Now what would happened when
someone pulls the rope to shut the door? If that person didn't put flanges
around the cutout itself, the person pulling the door shut is going to be
knocked on his back when the door continues to rotate past the cutout. The
person will then be part of that door when it falls on top of him. You have
to put flanges around the cutout on the ark. You can then coat the flanges
and the part of the door that meets the flanges, with pitch.
