On the contrary, 500 feet of new water is not difficult to account for.
First of all the singular land mass was obviously a much larger area than
the land masses are today. The new water that did not freeze (ice age), or
did not fill up valleys to become lakes, or did not fill up large holes
under the earth's surface raised the present sea level approximately 500
feet. I would agree with you that 30,000 feet of new water would still be
covering our planet, but fortunately that was not the case. As to your
second point, I have not claimed any such thing. Mt. Everest and the rest of
the mountains in that range were probably pushed up to their present heights
when the continental shelfs, which were moving away from the singular land
mass, suddenly collided with each other. So I have not, nor am not defending
the senario you have presented.

Baker, Are you claiming that the flood waters did not cover the whole earth?
BAKER 1/11
Since you have asked a multitude of questions, let me answer them as they
occur. I personally do not believe that the flood discussed in Gen 7 covered
the entire earth. Since the canopy was collapsing at the north and south
pole regions, the waters may not have reached much below the line marked by
the ice age.
HELEN 1/10
If the whole earth was covered then the lakes would have been filled with
flood water at the time of the flood.
BAKER 1/11
I don't think the whole earth was covered by the waters of the flood even
though the bible claims that they did. Evidence from about 30 degrees
latitude toward the equator do not show signs of being engulfed in a flood
of the magnitude discussed in the bible.
HELEN 1/11
The bible says (gen. 7:19-20), "The waters swelled so mightily on the earth
that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered; the waters
swelled above the mountains covering them fifteen cubits deep." cubit=17.5
inches x 15 cubits=262.5 inches=21.875 feet. So highest mountains were
covered by at least 21.9 feet of water and the lakes would have been filled.
BAKER 1/11
I believe that the waters of the canopy filled up the pot holes creating
lakes that were not previously present.
HELEN 1/10
Everest is currently close to 30,000 feet.Right? If as you claim the great
land mass pulled apart 800 years after the flood and then they slammed
together, when are you claiming the flood happen?
BAKER 1/11
I don't know when the flood occurred, and can only go on assumptions as to
when it occurred. For the sake of argument I accept the 2344 B.C.E. date,
but that may be off by a few thousand years. I am just not sure. I have
never claimed that the land mass separated 800 years after the flood, but
again rely on the chronology established by biblical scholars for the sake
of argument. Gen 10:25 indicates that the earth began to divide
approximately 200 years after the flood during the lifetime of Peleg, if the
chronology is correct.
HELEN 1/10
You believe in a young earth right? Under 6000years right? Didn't you agree
with the 3000-2500bc date for the flood? which would make your land mass
pulled apart date 2200-1700bc, so how long after this do you think the
continental shelfs collided with each other? I miswrote above, you are
claiming that since this collision which occurred, what is it your in fact
claiming? 3000 years ago? You are claiming Everest has grown 29,000 feet.
Did this growth happen over night? Or is Everest still growing at this rate?
How long do _you_ claim this growth took? Drivel would seem to be a polite
phrase for this stuff!
BAKER 1/11
My dear Helen, why are you so angry? I have made every attempt to be polite
to you in responding to your posts, so why can't you show me the same courtesy?
I do not believe in a young earth, but I do believe in a rapid period of
evolution on an old earth, and I also believe that the evolution that
occurred in the seas was micro in comparison. As I said I am accepting the
2344 B.C.E. date for the flood until proven otherwise. I am not sure how
long the continental shelfs drifted apart before colliding, but considering
some of the evidence found in legends, folktales, and mythology, it would
appear that the shelfs began to collide about 2000 years ago or longer. When
the collisions began to occur the force of the collisions pushed the present
mountain ranges upward to their present heights from whatever heights they
were prior to the collisions. I cannot prove any of this, and don't intend
to try. It is my opinion, which is based upon other evidence I see for the
canopy, the flood, the division of the land masses, the legends, and other
evidence. Since the continental shelfs are moving at a much slower rate
today, because they have no place to go, the mountains are not being pushed
upwards at all, and if there is upward movement, it cannot be easily
detectable.
