CLAIRE In Luke 22:36, Jesus says ‘He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.' In v. 38, his disciples take him literally and produce two swords. Jesus says ‘It is enough!' and "puts an end to a conversation that has been over their heads." according to the _Collegeville Bible Commentary_ on Luke's Gospel. According to the footnote in the _Catholic Study Bible_, "in the future period of the church the missionaries must be prepared for the opposition they will face in a world hostile to their preaching...the farewell discourse ends abruptly [with Jesus saying ‘It is enough'] when the disciples take LITERALLY what was intended as FIGURATIVE language about being prepared to face the world's hostility." When Jesus expelled the moneychangers from the Temple he did not kill (or even intend to kill) anyone. I would not call what he did "taking revenge" against them. ~Claire O'Connor
