CLAIRE I had read that Stalin was raised a Christian. But he did become an atheist. So do we still blame Christianity for his evil deeds?

CLAIRE Dear Ian: There was a good article in US News and World Report several weeks ago about the Promise Keepers. Many of the men joined the Promise Keepers because their wives pressured them to do so. The wives interviewed for the article seemed very pleased with the changes in their husbands. Of course, if anything good came of the Promise Keepers, you would disregard that evidence, because it does not fit with your pre-conceived notion that everything associated with Christianity MUST BE BAD. What you are rejecting is a distorted cartoon version of Christianity. How can you say that a born-again Christian would never be a whistle-blower? How can you prove that? I think your statement is bigoted. I don't have time to address all your points right now, but I will return to this later. I do hope that Pope John Paul releases the papers concerning Pope Pius XII and Nazi Germany. I guess I should write a letter. I also think that citizens of countries whose governments did not do enough to help the Jews should be aware of this part of their history. I don't think that Switzerland and the RC Church should be the only ones targeted here. Regards, Claire O'Connor
