I'd like to know what some of you scientific types out there would have
to say about Dr. Hugh Ross' page, which is I believe at
http://www.reasons.org .

Paul Robson:

Seems to be the usual sort of stuff churned out for the believers.

Here are some examples of what was on the "Physical Science"
part of the FAQ. (There are, of course, no references for any of
these claims).

>However, in this decade, astronomers and physicists have proven that
>the universe is finite-- in time and in extent.

>astronomers have gone on to prove that the universe requires a Creator,
>a Creator who exists beyond our dimensions of space and time.
These are outright lies. (any Scientist would not claim to have 'proven' the universe is anything).
>the dice of chance can be thrown as often as necessary to explain even such
>amazing improbabilities as atoms self-assembling into living things.
Whoever wrote this does not understand anything about evolution or statistics. (There is the usual collection of "completely random" type remarks about evolution all over this site).
>Since new scientific proofs establish that the entire universe is at
>least 10^100,000,000,000 times too small or too young to permit
>the natural formation of any form of carbon- based life,
>the only rational conclusion is that God alone is responsible for
>the formation of life.
Anyone writing this knows nothing about what 'proof' means or owt about statistics. (The conclusion does not follow from the premise, of course). A "rational" person, is , of course, someone who agrees with the writer.
>Balloon studies have found microorganisms high up in the earth's
>stratosphere. From these high altitudes, the solar wind is capable
>of pushing the organisms all the way to the surface of Mars.
>Also, ancient asteroid collisions with the earth could have sent
>life-carrying earth material to Mars.
This is absolute desperation. (attempt to argue that life on Mars originated on Earth). However, this is an amusing one I haven't heard before. I can visualise someone panicking on hearing about the possibility of life on Mars and desperately trying to come up with something. Later on....
>We should expect to find many species of earth life at least as
>far away as Mars
No fiurther comment required.
>The equations of general relativity, the big bang origin of the universe,
>and some newly discovered fundamental particles all require a Creator
>God who lives in dimensions including and beyond the dimensions of
>our universe
This is just complete tripe. Any site with any pretensions to "scientific authority" would not write anything like this. (comes from the FAQ). Are there any decent creationist pages NOT along the lines of the Gish/ Morris arguments written by someone with the wit to realise that any vaguely knowledgeable person is going to laugh at this sort of nonsense ? (though I didn't laugh, just stared in disbelief). Paul Robson (autismuk@aol.com)
