I hate it when theists say that we nonbelievers can't prove that God
doesn't exist. It is not like we are trying to prove that an ungod exists.
And think that no proof of an ungod is a good enough reason to believe in a
god. But I would like to point out that the negative side of anything can't
be proven. So when you say we can't prove God doesn't exist, you are right.
we can't. But I can't prove that frogs can't fly either. Sure I can take a
thousand of them up to the top of a tall building and start throwing them
off. But still, a believer could say that for some reason they didn't want
to fly. Whether it be the temperature, the pressure, the time of year, their
age, etc. I could throw every frog in the world to its death, and still
people could claim that I didn't prove frogs can't fly. And they would be
right. On the other hand though, I would rather leave the frogs living
(assuming they can't fly) and save them from the pain and suffering of a mass
extermination. All it takes is for one, just one frog to pull out of its
nosedive and level off flying to make us all believers. It is because of
this very scenario that the burden of proof lies with the affirmative (theist
as opposed to a-theist) side. This is why the theists must show evidence of
their side. All it takes is for God to perform one undeniable miracle.
Whether it be to write in 100-mile high letters "I AM GOD" or that he says
with a voice so loud that everyone in the world hears it say "I AM GOD." A
God who created all of this must be a pretty good architect, but he is in
need of some serious help when it comes to making his presence known.
Back to the burden of proof. It is on you. And faith doesn't
constitute proof either. Faith. Well, if I have faith that there is an
invisible gopher running around your feet, and he created the world, is it
true? You can't prove that it's not, just like I can't prove that God's not.
Therefore, faith proves everything (or nothing depending upon how you look
at it). What evidence is left? Personal experiences? I've had a personal
experience with that gopher. Understand? You have every right to dismiss my
gopher as logically irrational, but if you do, I will dismiss your God as
irrational, and you should too. If you don't, you are being hypocritical.
