In a message dated 29/8/97 14:03:42, you write:
> Martin-
> Numbers 22:30, "The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your own donkey,
> which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of
> doing this to you?" "No," he said."
> Donkeys don't talk. (yawn)
>
An inerrantist could deal with this using any of the following tactics, or
answers :-
(1) God enabled the donkey to communicate.
(2) The donkey was in fact a man, and the verse uses
donkey metaphorically.
(3) Balaam could understand donkey-speak.
(4) The passage is taken out of context.
(5) It is a copying error, inerrant in the original manuscript.
(6) It is explained by some other verse in the Bible where animals talk.
(7) Donkeys could talk in OT times.
(8) It doesn't say that in the original Hebrew which you can't read.
(9) I am right, you are wrong, the Bible is inerrant.
(10) Talk about objective morality again.
(11) Run off and subscribe to Challenge instead.
(12) Quote seven pages from the Bible.
(13) If you believed the Bible/Jesus/God etc. you'd understand why this
isn't a contradiction.
(14) God tells me there is no contradiction here. Are you making yourself God
?
(15) The Bible quote about learned men being unable to understand it. (can't
remember)
(16) Attack Evolution.
(17) Post a sermon on another matter entirely.
(18) Make a joke and forget about it.
(19) You are the voice of Satan (ad hominem)
AND....
(20) Refuse to answer it.
There are probably lots more equally ridiculous arguments.
If you want to see what I mean go and look at Lenny's much visited Home Page
(lets help him into double figures, folks !) there is a comical article about
the
Judas death thing (written in a big font so you don't realise there's nothing
to it).
Paul Robson (autismuk@aol.com)
DID YOU KNOW on British TV in the 70's a couple of comedians teamed up to do
a comedy show which sank without trace. Universally panned by its critics for
being crap, basically, it didn't get to another series. Afterwards, one half
worked
on game shows, the other never worked on TV again. (AFAIK)
It was called "The Lenny and Jerry Show"
