In a message dated 1/8/97 08:06:49, you write:

[John Hamilton]
My experience has been that Atheists, on the average, are much more
ethical and moral than Theists.

LENNY

So John you are saying that Theists have no morals?? (Just thought I
would try it to see how it felt. Now I feel dirty and need to take a
bath)!!

Paul Robson:
I think the Atheist/Theist morality thing is a question of perception. The
less e&m theists would stick more in John's mind perhaps. I doubt this
 is true.

I also doubt the more common Xian claim that "Xians are
more moral & ethical people" (usually achieved via the "true Xian"
argument, which is a redefinition game, excluding non-good Xians
 from the Xian definition)

Lenny, this argument of John's is so easy to query. (Though it is
qualified by saying it is personal experience). However , he does
say it. What concerns me is what is implied by your argument

"My whole problem is that without the Bible as a standard everyone
gets to make up their own. Whatever "I" think. Whatever "I" feel.
Whatever "I" want. Who can say that certain things are wrong?"

Ignoring the old debating trick in the middle, what is the problem ?
I've heard this so many times but I'd like to know what you think is
likely to happen without the Bible as a standard.
