(DAVE 4/7) Aaron: Agreed. So the question then is, what criteria do we
actually use to deny or support the existence of something? And do we all
use the same criteria?
Aaron O-
I should probably say here that I am not into "denying" things.
As a skeptic, I am perfectly willing to accept a proposition as
possible. However, I _wont_ accept it as true in the absence of
any conclusive evidence.
(DAVE 4/7) Aaron: Fair enough. But is there no further credence to this
possibility then simply that it cannot be eliminated? Do we have a suitable
explanation for our existence that would make the absence of a designer viable?
Aaron O-
I don't think that it is neccery to invoke a designer to explain the
universe. Although our understanding of the universe is incomplete,
no leading scientific theory on the origins of the universe, AFAIK,
invokes a designer. Let us suspend judgement.
Dave-
One further question; if there is no creator, then we were not created. We
formed through the random behaviour of our universe. With all the
possibilities that could have happened, don't you find it the least bit
fascinating that we have ended up, as we are, here on this planet, having
this particular conversation between us? (glad we are having it by the way)
Aaron O-
This is starting to sound like the beginings of an "arguement
from design"! :-) Yes, the Universe is an amazing and it is fascinating
that highly complex beings such as humans occur in it.
I just don't think that it is necessary to invoke God to explain it.
