>>>hi again:
>>>Many references have been made to the accounts in the gospels of Jesus
>>>"cleansing" the temple by overturning the moneychanger's tables, whipping
>>>the cattle out, etc. It's my understanding that the moneychanger's didn't
>>>have tables as we know them, but rather trays on the ground. I think I got
>>>this info thru Rocco Errico & his knowledge of Aramaic idioms, but I'm not
>>>sure. Also, the "whips" JC allegedly made were supposedly more like cords
>>>with knots on one end and weren't used to whip animals but rather to move
>>>them along, so to speak.
>>> Of course none of this information (if true) changes the fact that the
>>>gospels have JC interrupting legitimate business, disturbing the peace,
>>>etc. which would have certainly brought him to the attention of the Roamn
>>>authrities immediately.
>>>
>>>These may be trivial points but my deconversion from bible innerancy
>>>stemmed from the time I heard of the tables/trays problem & looked the word
>>>"tables" up in Young's Concordance. I found that the Greek word translated
>>>"tables" actually *meant* "tables & not "trays". I remember walking out of
>>>the library thinking to myself "The bible's not accurate! There are errors
>>>in it!" & suddenly realizing it was a book like any other book. The feeling
>>>of freedom was fantastic!
>>>
>>>Anyone care to comment on this trays/tables/flails business? Yoel? Wingo?
>>>
>>yoel-
>>Well, the NT is not in Hebrew so there is little I can say. Regardless of
>>what Mr. Errico says, it is also not in Aramaic. Perhaps Mr. Wingo can
>>elaborate because he is the only one on this list with insight into the
>>language of the NT.
>>
>>Whatever Jesus turned over... it was weird! What was he hoping to
>>accomplish? Lets say it was not a table but a cash box, and lets say it was
>>a fly swatter instead of a whip. If I were to run into Dave's church and
>>overturn his church's donation boxes and run around with a fly swatter,
>>screaming Bible verses... what would the point of this be, other than to
>>show that I am unbalanced? Would my actions prove or change anything? Would
>>Dave's congregation then allow me to sit down and start teaching as Jesus
>>was allowed to do?
>>
>>So, when asked whether Jesus was a lunatic... from what I see, YES!!!!
>>
>(DAVe 4/21) Hi Yoel: I'm not sure using me as an example means you think I
>wrote the above - if so, I didn't.

yoel-

No, I just picked anyone, and since you were the only Christian left (as
far as I can see), and since the original writer never posted anything
publicly, I used your church theoretically. I hope you don't mind... you
don't even have to be there, just some of the members of your church so
that I can throw a tantrum before them and display my lunacy.

Never mind my being liar or lord; if I were to throw such a tantrum in your
church, would I be a lunatic? What would I have accomplished? Would the
members of your church be impressed with me?
