You may disagree with Burkert and Eliade, however, the point should be
clear...there are good reasons to deny the thesis that Christianity
borrowed from pagan religions in their initiatory stage.

Umm. And just what was Christianity in its "initiatory stage"? A
Jewish cult? Of what antiquity?
And if, "to win converts" the early Christians started adopting
some of the symbolism well, one can only wonder what the doctrines were
before the, ah, accommodation and synthesis.
